Therapeutic Justice in the UK

April 16, 2020 @ 10:30 am - 6:00 pm BST

£50

In 2018, Dr. Emma Jones (Sheffield University) and Dr. Anna Kawalek (Leeds Beckett University) engaged in several lengthy discussions about the potential of launching a Therapeutic Jurisprudence (TJ) in the UK Chapter. This had yet been done before in the UK context, but would form a branch of the International Society of TJ (ISTJ), and would mimic international Chapters with similar goals and interests.

In 2019, Jones and Kawalek went on to organise and host the first UK meeting themed around TJ in the UK at the Open University, marking the official launch of the UK Chapter. The purpose of the meeting was to showcase some key work in the area whilst bringing together individuals with shared interests, augmenting networks within the UK body and across the international society (ISTJ).

Following the success of the first TJ in the UK meeting, Dr. Emma Jones, Dr. Anna Kawalek, and Penelope Welbourne (Plymouth University), are hosting the first *official* conference for TJ in the UK. This will take place at Plymouth University on 16th April 2020. We are delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale and a list of speakers have now been confirmed.

Delivering the Keynote Speech is Professor David Wexler, who co-founded the concept “TJ” in the 1980s, and who is Director of the International Society for Therapeutic Jurisprudence; we welcome him all the way from Puerto Rico!
